The K&H retail bank account is insured by the National Deposit Insurance Fund.

How does deposit protection work?

If a bank deposit placed with a credit institution cannot be withdrawn due to the insolvency of that institution, then the National Deposit Insurance Fund will pay indemnification for the client within 20 working days. The amount of indemnification is the forint-equivalent of maximum EUR 100,000 in aggregate per depositor and per credit institution. In exceptional cases the maximum amount of indemnification may be increased by a further EUR 50,000 at the maximum.

Hungarian deposit insurance works as follows:

  • if a credit institution becomes insolvent, the National Deposit Insurance Fund will pay indemnification for registered deposits (that contain the details of the depositor) both for private individuals and legal entities

  • the amount of indemnification is maximum EUR 100,000 per depositor (paid out by the Fund in HUF)

  • this insurance applies separately to each credit institution. It means that if you place your money in deposit with several banks, you become insured for up to EUR 100,000 for each such deposit.
