secure online payment

The process of online payment has changed

why?

  • purchases made on the Internet using a debit or credit card will become even safer both in Hungary and abroad, thanks to the new payment legislation (PSD2)
  • the new process is called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), which is mandatory for all card issuing banks and merchants (bank card acceptance locations)

what are the most frequent issues in the new payment process?

What is it that you definitely need if you wish to make purchases on the Internet?

  • if possible, download it for e-bank and mobile [K&H mobile bank], and enable pop-up messages on your smartphone
  • you don't have the K&H mobile app yet? – download it now with just one click
  • a properly set online purchase limit
  • a phone number provided for online purchases (3DS phone number)
  • a password set for online purchases

If, by default, you approve your online bank card payments using K&H mobile bank, you don't need a password set for online purchases, yet, it's important to record such a password.

why?

if for some technical reason we are unable to send you an instant push notification, you can authenticate your payment with the password set for online purchases plus the password sent by text message (SMS).

how to set a password set for online purchases?

  • in K&H e-bank under cards/accounts, on the page that pops up by clicking on the card image, in the ‘new password’ field
  • on the K&H e-card platform, by clicking on the ‘change your password set for online purchases’ button
  • in K&H mobile bank, by clicking on the card image in the ‘bank cards’ menu, under ‘card security/confirmation by text message (SMS)’

what to do if I am trying to approve the transaction using a password received in an SMS message, but I keep failing?

  • if you have provided the cards details on the payment platform, the system will first ask for the password set for online purchases, which is a 4-digit code provided by you
  • after entering the password set for online purchases you must type in the six digit code that you received from the Bank in a text message (SMS)
  • you don't remember your password set for online purchases? Provide a new one in one of the following ways:
    • in K&H e-bank, under ‘cards/accounts’ on the page appearing after clicking on the card image, in the ‘new password’ field
    • on the K&H e-card platform by clicking on the ‘change your password set for online purchases’ button
      • to log on to the K&H e-card platform, you will need your my-ID and ePIN. Your my-ID can be found in the top right corner of your account statement, while the ePIN is a 6-digit code provided by you.
      • If you have forgotten your ePIN code, please call K&H TeleCenter to ask for help on +36 1/20/30/70 335 3355

I have K&H mobile bank, but I cannot find the instant (push) notification that I need to approve the transaction

  • if you have K&H mobile bank installed, you will receive an instant (push) notification on your mobile after entering the card details at the time of purchase. You can confirm the transaction by tapping this notification.
  • it is important to note that if you fail to receive or find the instant (push) notification, please, log on to K&H mobile bank, where you will find a window allowing you to confirm the transaction by clicking on it
  • due to technical reasons, we may not be able to send you the above-mentioned push notification. In such a case, you will be able confirm your purchase using your password set for online purchases and a code sent by text message (SMS).
  • have you forgotten your password set for online purchases? Provide a new one in one of the following ways:
    • in K&H e-bank under ‘cards/accounts’ on the page appearing after clicking on the card image, in the ‘new password’ field
    • on the K&H e-card platform by clicking on the ‘change your password set for online purchases’ button
    • in K&H mobile bank under the ‘bank cards’ menu, then by clicking on the card image, under ‘card security/confirmation by text message (SMS)’
    • to log on to the K&H e-card platform, you will need your my-ID and ePIN. Your my-ID can be found in the top right corner of your account statement, while the ePIN is a 6-digit code provided by you.
    • If you have forgotten your ePIN code, please call K&H TeleCenter to ask for help at +36 1/20/30/70 335 3355
  • IMPORTANT!
    • please check if you can log on to K&H mobile bank. If you fail, it is worth updating the application in the device’s app store.
    • check on your device if pop-up/push notifications are enabled. Without this, you will only be able to approve your transactions after logging on to K&H mobile bank, which slows down the process.

I have had too many attempts, and I have received an error message saying that strong customer authentication has been blocked and I need to reactivate it via an e-channel

In this case you must wait 60 minutes after the last attempt, and provide a new password for online purchases before you try again.

  • On the K&H e-card platform by clicking on the ‘change your password set for online purchases’ button
  • In K&H mobile bank under the ‘bank cards’ menu, by clicking on the  card image, under ‘card security/confirmation by text message (SMS)’

I have had too many attempts, and I have received an error message saying that strong customer authentication has been blocked

In such a case, either the password set for online purchases or the password send by text message (SMS) was repeatedly entered incorrectly. Try to make the purchase again after 60 minutes, and we also recommend that you check your password set for online purchases in one of the following ways:

  • In K&H e-bank under ‘cards/accounts’ on the page appearing after clicking on the card image, in the ‘new password’ field

If you only have a joint card, you can make online purchases using a password specifically set for online purchases and a confirmation code receive by text message (SMS):

  • enter the card details on the payment platform
  • enter the password set for online purchases previously provided by you (a 4-digit number)

It is the account holder's responsibility to provide the phone number to which the confirmation text message (SMS) will arrive (3DS phone number) and to set the online purchase limit, which they can do via K&H e-bank or K&H mobile bank. The password set for online purchases must be provided buy the card holder via the K&H e-card platform.

I have entered my bank card details, following which the strong customer authentication process failed to launch

You may find that you provide the details of your bank card during the purchase process, but the strong customer authentication process does not start, and your transaction is simply rejected.

First, it is worth checking whether you have entered your bank card details correctly (card number, expiry date, CVC code) or that your limit set for online purchases is set correctly for the value of the transaction. The limit can be checked in the ‘bank cards’ menu in K&H e-bank and in K&H mobile bank.

If the above details are correct, but the strong customer authentication process still does not start, and the transaction is simply rejected, then it is likely that the merchant does not meet the conditions stipulated for the strong customer authentication process. Unfortunately, this means that you will not be able to pay by bank card on this site. If the merchant is reliable, you may want to choose another payment method, or contact the merchant and report the issue.

what is it that I should definitely check if my transaction gets rejected?

If your transaction is unsuccessful, please first check the following:

  • check whether you have provided your basic details correctly:
    • bank card number, which is 4 times 4 numbers printed on the bank card
    • expiry date, which is also printed on the bank card in MM/YY format
    • the CVC code, which is a 3-digit number on the back of your bank card
  • check whether your online purchase limit is set appropriately for the value of the transaction
    • you can check your online purchase limit in K&H mobile bank under the ‘bank cards’ menu, by clicking on the card image and then on ‘limit settings’, or in K&H e-bank under ‘cards/accounts’ by clicking on the  card image

what should I do if subscription transactions cannot be completed?

It can happen that subscription-type transactions cannot be completed after the new payment process takes effect. In this case, you should re-register your card on the platform to allow such transactions to go through smoothly in the future with high probability.

what do I require for making sure I can continue to pay smoothly online?

how can I prepare for future changes? from when will they come into effect?

The changes will come into effect gradually by the end of February 2021. In the meantime, the security of online purchases is guaranteed by the current process. Currently, bank cards issued by K&H Bank cannot be used automatically for online purchases upon their issuance. In the case of bank cards linked to business accounts, online purchases can be authorised by the person who has disposal rights over the account linked to the bank card, via the K&H business e-bank or Electra digital card management platform, and this is where they can also register the phone number to be used for delivering the SMS confirmation code linked to the bank card.

After changes to the strong customer authentication (SCA) process take effect, all business bank cards issued by K&H Bank will be automatically eligible for online purchases, and one precondition to the application for the bank card will be the registration of a phone number capable of receiving the code confirming the online purchase transaction. Online purchases will also be automatically available for existing bank cards.

For security reasons, the online purchase limit will be automatically set to 1 HUF for both existing and newly issued bank cards in cases where the card holder/account holder has not yet set a limit.

if I have a bank card linked to a business account, how will I be able to confirm my online purchase transaction?

As customer authentication rules are tightened, the combination of card details used to confirm online purchase transactions and the confirmation code received by text message (SMS) will not qualify as strong customer authentication.

With the entry into force of a strong customer authentication process, there will be two ways to confirm online purchase transactions for bank cards linked to business accounts:

  • if you use the K&H mobile bank app for the business account to which your business bank card is linked (or you have a retail account with K&H for which you use the K&H mobile bank app), the transaction will be confirmed by way of a notification sent by the K&H mobile app
  • if you do not use the K&H mobile bank app for the business account to which your business bank card is linked, or you do not have the right (right of disposal or card management rights) to do so in respect of the account, or if you do not use the K&H  mobile bank app as a retail customer either, the transaction will be confirmed using the confirmation code received by text message (SMS), which is the approach currently used, plus the password set for online purchases provided by the card holder in advance.

what do I need to do after the changes come into effect if I use the K&H mobile bank application for the business account to which my business bank card is linked (or if I have a retail account with K&H Bank in respect of which I use the mobile banking application)

If you've never made a purchase with your online business bank card before, you can set the limits linked to the business bank card, including the online purchase limit, via the card management platform of e-bank/mobile bank.

In your smartphone, under ‘K&H mobile bank settings’ you must authorise the application to send notifications. Once the new rules come into effect, this is how you'll receive the notifications required for the confirmation of transactions when making online purchases, which you can approve applying the identification method used in the mobile bank app (fingerprint, facial recognition, mPIN).

what do I need to do if the instant (push) notification does not arrive when making a purchase?

If you fail to receive a confirmation message on your mobile phone, you can also perform the action by logging on to K&H mobile bank within 5 minutes of starting the purchase transaction.

If the notification cannot reach your mobile phone due to  a system error, the system will automatically switch to the alternative confirmation method and in this case it will be possible to authenticate the transaction with a confirmation code sent via text message (SMS) and the password set for online purchases.

In K&H e-bank and in K&H mobile bank there is a dedicated menu item where you can enter this new password. We strongly recommend that you enter your password set for online purchases so that you can make a purchase even if an error occurs while attempting to send the push notification.

what do I need to do after the changes come into effect, if I do not use the K&H mobile bank application either for the business account to which my business bank card is linked, or as a retail customer?

The transaction will be confirmed with the currently used confirmation code received by text message (SMS) plus the password set for online purchases provided in advance by the card holder. The password set for online purchases is the card holder's secret password for the bank card in question.

You can enter this password in two different ways:

  • if you can access your business account to which your business bank card is linked via K&H's business e-bank or Electra (you have the right to dispose of the card / you hold card management rights), you can set up the password set for online purchases and the purchase limits, including the online purchase limit via the card management platform of business e-bank/Electra.
  • if you cannot access your business account to which your business bank card is linked via K&H's business e-bank or Electra (you don't have the right to dispose of the card / you don't hold card management rights), and you only have a business card, then you can set your password set for online purchases for the card in question via the Bank's dedicated K&H e-card platform. The purchase limits associated with the card must be set for you by the person with card management rights in respect of the account.

When confirming an online purchase transaction, you must first enter the password set for online purchases and then the confirmation code received in a text message (SMS) - the latter process does not differ from the current one.

how can I set up a password for online purchases using the K&H e-card platform?

You can enter your password set for online purchases for your business card via the K&H e-card platform.

Because the password used for online purchases is a component of strong customer authentication (SCA), entering/registering the password on the K&H e-card platform requires a high level of security. For this reason, you will need a K&H my-ID and ePIN to access the K&H e-card platform.

You can find the K&H my-ID in the banking documentation associated with your card. If you can't find it, or if you've forgotten it, you can request help in any bank branch or via the K&H TeleCenter.

You provided your ePIN when you signed up for electronically identified banking services. If you don't have this code or you have forgotten it, you can be helped with its replacement in any bank branch, or you can ask for help by video call.

You can enter your password set for online purchases with your business bank card after logging on to the K&H e-card platform. After entering the password, you can record it in the system by typing in the code sent by SMS to the phone number associated with the card.

what additional responsibilities could I potentially have if I have right of disposal in respect of a business account to which my bank cards are linked?

If you do not have the right of disposal in respect of the business account that is linked to your business bank card, you will not be able to act without limitation as the card holder. Certain features and limits may only be set for your card by the person with disposal right in respect of the account.

If you have the right of disposal in respect of the account (you can make payments and access your cars via K&H e-bank, mobile bank and/or Electra) and, in addition to  your own business bank card, several additional business card holders are also linked to the account, who do not have disposal rights in respect of the account, then you are the only person who can also manage certain functions associated with their cards. You can set the limits for the cards they use and enter the mobile phone number required for online purchases, to which text messages (SMS) containing a confirmation code required to confirm the transactions will be sent, and also authorise online purchases made with the cards until the new strong customer authentication (SCA) changes take effect.

everything we need to know about the K&H my-ID and ePIN

All customers who use a K&H Bank service have K&H my-IDs.

The ePIN code is provided to customers who have electronically identified banking services (K&H e-bank,  mobile bank, e-mail, Electra). If have a business card, but you don't have any other contact with the bank, and you don't use any other products, you may not have an ePIN prepared for you as yet.

If you have questions about any of the IDs, if you are missing one or have forgotten it, you can seek help from our colleagues either in a bank branch or through the K&H TeleCenter.

what do I need to do after the changes come into effect, if I have right of disposal in respect of the business account to which the bank called is linked; however, I do not have banking services that require electronic identification (e-bank, mobile bank, Electra)?

If you don’t use K&H business e-bank, mobile bank or Electra to manage your everyday business finances (you do your transactions on paper or through the K&H Company Line), we offer two ways that will enable you to continue to pay online with your business bank card, even after strong customer authentication (SCA) changes kick in, if the card is linked to an account in respect of which you have disposal rights.

You can enter your business card limits and your mobile phone number associated with online purchases, to which we will send you text messages (SMS), in the following ways:

  • using the K&H Company Line
  • you may visit one of our branches, conclude a contract for electronically identified banking services, and then set it up through K&H business e-bank or via the mobile banking platform

Following this, the rest of the action points are the same as described under the previous sections.

what should I pay attention to when making online purchases?

After changes to the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) process, all bank cards issued by the Bank will be enabled to manage online purchases without any special settings (including existing cards); however, the online purchase limit will automatically set to HUF 1, unless the holder of the card or of the account to which the card is linked orders otherwise. You can easily set, change or keep the limits up to date, separately for each card, always allowing you to authorise the limit value you need.

will I definitely need a mobile handset that is capable of receiving text messages (SMS) if I wish to make online purchases using my business bank card in the future?

Yes, because online purchase transactions made with a business bank card are confirmed with a password used for online purchases and a confirmation code sent by text message (SMS) to the mobile phone number registered with the bank card in question.

I am also a retail customer, and as a retail customer I use the K&H mobile bank application

If you use the K&H mobile bank app as a retail customer, you will also be able to confirm online purchases made with your business bank card via the K&H  mobile bank application.

when will I be affected by the changes?

The transition will take place gradually by the end of February 2021. If both the card accepting entity and the issuer both switch to the new method, the online purchase transaction will be confirmed as described on the site. If the purchase is made with an acceptance location that does not yet comply with the new rules, the transaction will be confirmed in the usual manner.

The new rules do not apply to online card purchases from Asian or US sites operating outside the European Economic Area (EU Member States plus the UK, Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland).

how can I prepare for future changes? from when will they come into effect?

The changes will take effect gradually by the end of February 2021. In the meantime, the security of online purchases will be guaranteed by the current procedure. Currently, bank cards issued by K&H Bank cannot be automatically used for online purchases upon their issuance. In case of bank cards linked to business accounts, the authorisation of online purchases and the phone number associated with the card and used for sending the text message (SMS) containing the confirmation code can be set up by the person who holds the right of disposal in respect of the account associated with the card via the digital card management platform of Electra or K&H business e-bank.

After strong customer authentication (SCA) changes take effect, all business bank cards issued by the Bank will be automatically eligible for online purchases, and your bank card application will be subject to the registration of a phone number, where the handset is capable of receiving the code confirming the online purchase transaction. The online purchase function will also be automatically available for existing cards.

For security, for both existing and newly issued cards, the online purchase limit will be set to 1 HUF in cases where the person with disposal rights in respect of the account has not yet set a limit.

how will I be able to confirm my online purchase transactions if I use a bank card linked to a business account?

With the tightening of customer authentication rules, the combination of the current card data used to confirm online purchase transactions and the confirmation code received via SMS will not be considered strong customer authentication as a.

For bank cards linked to business accounts, online purchase transactions can be confirmed in two different ways from the end of February 2021, depending on the following:

  • if you use the K&H mobile bank app for the business account to which your business bank card is linked (or if you have a retail account with K&H for which you use the K&H mobile bank app), the transaction will be confirmed by way of a notification sent by the K&H mobile app
  • if you do not use the K&H mobile bank app for the business account to which your business bank card is linked, or you do not have the right (right of disposal or card management rights) to do so in respect of the account, or if you do not use the K&H  mobile bank app as a retail customer either, the transaction will be confirmed using the confirmation code received by text message (SMS), which is the approach currently used, plus the password set for online purchases provided by the card holder in advance

The password set for online purchases is the card holder's secret password for the given bank card, which the card holder can register or modify via the Bank's dedicated K&H e-card platform, or, subject to the existence of appropriate rights, via the digital card management platform of Electra or K&H business e-bank.

When confirming an online purchase transaction, you must first enter your password set for online purchases and then the confirmation code received by text message SMS (the process of the latter does not differ from the currently used one).

what do I need to do once the changes come into effect, if I use the K&H mobile bank application for the business account to which the business bank card is linked (or I have retail account with K&H Bank, in respect of which I use the mobile application)?

If you've never made a purchase with your online business debit card before, you can set the limits linked to your business bank card, such as the online purchase limit, in Electra or via the digital card management platform of K&H business e-bank/mobile bank. If you do not have sufficient rights to manage the limits, the person with disposal rights over the account can do so.

Following this, under the K&H mobile bank app’s settings in your smartphone, you’ll need to allow the application to send notifications. After the new rules come into force, this is how you will receive the notifications you need to confirm your transactions when you make online purchases,  which you will be able to approve using the identification method applied in the mobile bank app (fingerprint, facial recognition, mPIN).

what do I need to do once the changes come into effect, if I do not use the K&H mobile bank application for the business account to which the business bank card is linked, and I don’t use the mobile application as a retail customer either?

The transaction will be confirmed using the currently applied confirmation code received by text message (SMS) and a password set for online purchases previously provided by the card holder. The password set for online purchases is the card holder's secret password for the given bank card.

This password can be provided in two different ways

When confirming an online purchase transaction, you must first enter your password set for online purchases and then the confirmation code received by text message SMS (the process of the latter does not differ from the currently used one).

how can I set up a password for online purchases on the K&H e-card platform?

You can enter your secret password set for online purchases with your business bank card via the K&H e-card platform.

Because the password used for online purchases is a component of strong customer authentication (SCA), entering/registering the password on the K&H e-card platform requires a high level of security. For this reason, the card holder will need a K&H my-ID and ePIN to access the K&H e-card platform.

You can find the K&H my-ID on any banking documentation (balance statement, contracts). If you can't find it, or if you've forgotten it, you can request help in any bank branch or via the K&H Corporate Customer Services.

If you do not have an ePIN code, or if you've forgotten it, you can arrange for its replacement via the K&H Corporate Customer Services or in any bank branch.

You can log on to the K&H e-card platform by entering the K&H my-ID and ePIN, where, after logon, the card holder can enter the password set for online purchases for the business bank card. After entering the password, the system will record it once the code sent by text message (SMS) to the phone number registered for the card is entered.

what other responsibilities could I possibly have if I have right of disposal in respect of the business account that has cards linked to it?

If you do not have the right of disposal in respect of the business account that is linked to your business bank card, you will not be able to act without limitation as the card holder. Certain features and limits may only be set for your card by the person with disposal right in respect of the account.

If you have the right of disposal in respect of the account (you can make payments and access your cars via K&H e-bank, mobile bank and/or Electra) and, in addition to  your own business bank card, several additional business card holders are also linked to the account, who do not have disposal rights in respect of the account, then you are the only person who can also manage certain functions associated with their cards. You can set the limits for the cards they use and enter the mobile phone number required for online purchases, to which text messages (SMS) containing a confirmation code required to confirm the transactions will be sent.

everything we need to know about the K&H my-ID and ePIN

All customers who use a K&H Bank service have K&H my-IDs. You can find the K&H my-ID on any banking documentation (balance statement, contracts). If you can't find it, or if you've forgotten it, you can request help in any bank branch or via the K&H Corporate Customer Services.

The ePIN code is provided to customers who have electronically identified banking services (K&H e-bank,  mobile bank, e-mail, Electra). If have a business card, but you don't have any other contact with the bank, and you don't use any other products, you may not have an ePIN prepared for you as yet.

If you have questions about any of the IDs, if you are missing one or have forgotten it, you can seek help from our colleagues through the K&H TeleCenter or in a bank branch.

what should I do once the changes come into effect if I have right of disposal in respect of the business account to which the bank card is linked; however, I don't have access to any electronic channels (Electra, e-bank)?

If you don’t use K&H Electra or K&H business e-bank to manage your everyday business finances (you do your transactions on paper or through the K&H Company Line), we offer two ways that will enable you to continue to pay online with your business bank card, even after strong customer authentication (SCA) changes kick in, if the card is linked to an account in respect of which you have disposal rights.

You can enter your business card limits and your mobile phone number associated with online purchases, to which we will send you text messages (SMS), in the following ways:

  • via the K&H Corporate Customer Services, or
  • by contacting your relationship manager to conclude an electronic channel contract for the Electra or K&H business e-bank platform, through which you can set the desired mobile phone number.

In addition, online purchases initiated after the end of February 2021 will require a secret password set for online purchases linked to the business bank card, which must be provided by the card holder. You can enter your business card’s password set for online purchases through Electra, or the card management platform of K&H business e-bank, or the K&H e-card platform.

what should I pay attention to when making online purchases?

After changes to the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) process, all bank cards issued by the Bank will be enabled to manage online purchases without any special settings (including existing cards); however, the online purchase limit will automatically set to HUF 1, unless the holder of the card or of the account to which the card is linked orders otherwise. You can easily set, change or keep the limits up to date, separately for each card, always allowing you to authorise the limit value you need

will I definitely need a mobile handset that is capable of receiving text messages (SMS) if I wish to make online purchases using my business bank card in the future?

Yes, because online purchase transactions made with a business bank card are confirmed with a password used for online purchases and a confirmation code sent by text message (SMS) to the mobile phone number registered with the bank card in question.

I am also a retail customer / I use the K&H mobile bank application

If you use the K&H mobile bank app as a retail customer, you will also be able to confirm online purchases made with your business bank card via the K&H  mobile bank application.
